Nigerian Navy Raids Pirate/Kidnapper Camp in Bayelsa, Arrests Two Suspects
In its ongoing efforts to secure Nigeria’s maritime domain, personnel of the Nigerian Navy (NN), under Operation Delta Sanity II, raided a pirate/kidnapper camp in the Fununu community of Brass Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, on Saturday, January 11, 2025.
The operation follows the flag-off of Operation Delta Sanity II on Monday, December 30, 2024, by the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, PhD, in Rivers State. Since the launch, the operation has recorded significant arrests and seizures.
During the raid, suspected pirates and kidnappers engaged NN personnel in a gunfight lasting over 30 minutes but were eventually overpowered. While several suspects fled with gunshot wounds, two individuals—a male and a female—were apprehended.

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, reiterated the Navy’s commitment to eradicating criminal activities in Nigeria’s maritime space. He assured Nigerians that the Navy will continue to deploy superior firepower and strategic operations to maintain security in the region.
This latest success underscores the Navy’s resolve to rid the nation’s waterways of criminal elements, ensuring a safer maritime environment.
