BANDITS IN FIERCE GUN ATTACK KILL DPO, ONE OTHER IN SOKOTO POLICE STATION
Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed the DPO and one other during an attack on Gidan Madi Divisional Police Headquarters in Sokoto.
Some women were abducted during the attack which took place in the early hours of Thursday, according to BBC Hausa.

A resident of the town said they were sleeping when they were awoken to the sound of sporadic gunshots.
In a statement made available to newsmen, the Sokoto State Police Command Spokesman, ASP Muhammad Sadiq, also confirmed the incident, saying the attack was perpetrated by a group of about 100 armed men dressed in army camouflage.

The Police spokesman said the DPO (name withheld) and one inspector Muhammad Abdullahi were shot dead, while one ASP Sani Abdullahi sustained gun injury in his leg.
Unconfirmed sources say the attack was perpetrated by Foriegn Tuareg Group with Malian ties which has been in the area for long between Gudu and Tangaza.

Sadiq noted that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Sani Kaoje immediately led a team of Strategic Commanders comprising of DCP Operations, PMF Commander and Area Commanders to the scene of incident, assessed the situation, convened an emergency meeting with the Sole Administrator, District Head, Heads of Sister Security Agencies.
The Sister Security Agencies included the Forward Operation Base Commander of the Nigerian Army and other stakeholders.
The development was necessitated with a view to strengthening the security architecture of the area in order to halt further attacks and arrest the perpetrators.
The bandits also carted away weapons, including an AK 47 rifle, from the police station.
“The gunmen launched a surprise attack on the policemen when they were sitting within the premises of the police station,” a resident of Gidan Madi told the BBC Hausa.
