PDP’S MOVE TO IMPEACH BUHARI ILLOGICAL- REPS
The Nigerian House of Representatives has rejected the call by parliament members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari, describing the move as “illogical.”
The PDP caucus led by Honorable Kingsley Chinda of Obio / Akpor constituency of Rivers State in southern Nigeria on Sunday, December 6 called on members of the Green Chamber to begin impeachment proceedings against President Muhammadu Buhari citing the rising insecurity in the nation, particularly the recent killing of over 70 rice farmers in Zabarmari, Borno state by Boko Haram.
“The President has failed to lead Nigerians from the front as he promised. Nigerians are daily and defencelessly killed by terrorists and bandits, while the economy is being freely bleed by public officers, the letter read”.
Reacting to the call to impeach President Buhari on Monday, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, said the move was illogical as the President would meet the House soon to discuss the insecurity challenge.
In a statement titled “RE: Nigeria saddled with the circus–Hon Kingsley Chinda and his lone voyage of impeachment call,” the speaker said Hon Chinda has a personal vendetta against the President.
He also pointed out that Hon Chinda was a lone voice whose views does not reflect the general stance of the house as he had both lost the minority leadership election to Hon Ndudi Elumelu the minority leader of the 9th Assembly.
“It is the structure of the minority caucus leadership and majority caucus leadership that is recognised by the House as any statement not emanating from these and the spokesperson of the House does not in any way reflect either the minority, majority or general position of the 9th House of Representatives and should be disregarded,” excerpts from Benjamin Kalu’s statement read.
On the issue of insecurity, the Speaker of the House of Representatives urged Nigerians to be patient for the outcome of President Buhari’s meeting with the members of the House.
“I, therefore, assure Nigerians that having asked us to invite Mr President which we have done, you should be patient to wait for the outcome of our meeting, before been misled by a alone voice on the frolic of his own, whose private opinion in no way represents the position of the House of Representatives. We have only invited Mr President for an interactive session and cannot be distracted by those with other self not House motivated agenda.”
Meanwhile, the Governor of Borno Babagana Zulum, on Monday, December 6, said the security situation in his state has improved under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to Governor Zulum, statewide statistics indicates that the North-East sub-region is still far better under the Buhari administration.
“For instance, unlike the years before Buhari when a number of local government were no-go-areas, we now have citizens led by our traditional rulers, safely back to Bama, Gwoza, Askira-Uba, Dikwa, Ngala, Monguno, Kukawa, Damboa, Konduga, Mafa, all of which no one could visit not talk of living there. Our emirs were all in exile. Today, Bama is coming back to life and so are Askira-Uba, Damboa, Gwoza, and others. Life is even returning go Baga. This was impossible before Buhari,” Governor Zulum said.
