TRIAL OF EMBATTLED IMN LEADER, SHEIKH IBRAHIM EL-ZAKZAKY RESUMES TODAY

The trial of the embattled leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, resumes today at the Kaduna State High Court.

Recall that in December 2015, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zazaky and his wife, Zinat, were arrested and detained following a conflict between members of the IMN and the Nigerian Army.

They are both facing trial on eight counts of homicide, unlawful assembly, and disruption of public peace, among others.

El-Zazaky, who arrived at the Kaduna High Court on Tuesday, September 29, had asked the court to revoke the case leveled against them for lack of evidence.

The Court's Presiding Judge, Justice Gideon Kurada, however dismissed the no-case submission and said the court would continue with the trial.

Justice Kurada said El-Zakzaky's application was premature in view of the clear provisions of the Kaduna State administration of criminal justice
