PIRATES ATTACK VESSEL, KIDNAP 2 CREW MEMBERS
A passenger boat was attacked by pirates, on May 23, 2020, while transiting from Bakana to Degema, Rivers State, which led to the kidnap of two Nigerians.
It was reported that the passenger boat which was conveying seven persons, included four policemen, was attacked by twelve pirates.
The pirates were reported to have attacked the passenger boat in two speedboats.
The pirates opened fire on the passenger vessel resulting in the confrontation by the policemen onboard.
While the Police noticed it would be difficult to defeat the pirates looking at their numbers, they fled.
The Vessel driver and three of the policemen jumped into the water and swam for safety.
The pirates attacked the fourth policeman, threw him into the water to enable easy access to the vessel.
The Two civilians onboard were kidnapped.
The route is among the regions with the highest concentration and frequency of pirate attacks owing to the availability of oil industries.
