UPDATE: 10 KILLED, 60 INJURED IN BOKO HARAM ATTACK ON MAIDUGURI

At least 10 persons were confirmed killed and about 60 injured when Boko Haram insurgents attacked Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Tuesday evening.


Eons Intelligence earlier reported that the terrorists on Tuesday launched multiple missiles into Maiduguri and engaged the military at the outskirt of the town.


Eons Intelligence also reported that the missiles landed in Gwange, Bulabulin, Adam Kolo, and Molai areas of Maiduguri town leaving many feared dead. Sources say some of the Jihadist fighters also infiltrated the town and engaged security operatives behind the Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.


Report says that nine of the 10 dead victims were young boys hit by a bomb while playing football at Gwange ward.

Babagana Zulum, Governor of the State confirmed the attack and has also visited some of the hospitals where the injured are receiving medical treatment.


“We have been informed that about 10 persons were killed and 60 were injured. This is a new form of attack, totally different from the usual suicide bombing. It is worrisome and there is an urgent need to strategise to forestall further occurrence,” the governor said.


Zulum expressed sadness over the incident and sympathised with those affected. He also assured them that the government would provide care for them.


Borno State among other North-Eastern States in Nigeria has suffered a series of Boko haram attacks which has led to the death of many and displaced others.


On 9th February 2021, Boko Haram killed 5 soldiers and abducted about 10 electrical engineers working along the Maiduguri- Damaturu road in Borno State.


The attack occurred few days after the insurgents ambushed Nigerian troops protecting ongoing road construction works on Goniri-Kafa road in Borno State.


Meanwhile, the Nigerian military has also killed several members of the dreaded group in different encounters in Borno State.

On 10th February 2021, at least 100 Boko Haram fighters were killed by the Nigerian Army with

close air support from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets in Askira Uba, Borno State.


Also, on 2nd February 2021, troops of Operation Tura Takaibango inflicted heavy casualties on Boko Haram insurgents in their hideouts in Sambisa forest and the Gorgore axis of Borno State.
