23 KILLED, 260 INFECTED AS GASTROENTERITIS OUTBREAK HITS SOKOTO

Not less than 23 persons have died have from a gastroenteritis outbreak also known as stomach flu, in some communities in Sokoto State.


Of the 23 Local Government Areas in Sokoto, 13 have been affected, with 260 residents infected by the flu.


Some of the affected Local Government Areas include; Dange/Shuni, Kebne, Gwadabawa, Tangaza, Isa, Bodinga, Wamakko, and Silame.


Mohammed Iname, the State’s Commissioner for Health, confirmed the development to newsmen on Tuesday.


Gwadabawa Local Government Area has recorded the highest infection rate with over 47 confirmed cases.


In a statement by the State’s Commissioner for Health, Mohammed Iname, Personal hygiene should be prioritized by individuals and business travelers.


He urged residents to be careful during this period as the disease is highly contagious and easily transmitted from person to person through casual contact. The Commissioner noted that it is typically spread by contact with an infected person or through contaminated food or water.
