Anambra Police Arrest Five Suspected Armed Robbers, Kidnappers — Recover Weapons, Military Gear

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command has arrested five suspected members of an armed robbery and kidnapping syndicate, including a confessed deserter of the Nigerian Army.


The suspects were apprehended on 27 August 2025 by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, following intelligence that led officers to their hideout in Notoko, Awka. The arrests came after the abduction of a farmer in Isiagu, Awka, who was later released upon payment of ransom.


The suspects were identified as Michael Nwobodo (30), Eze Friday (29), Uche Okolo (23), Chinedu Gilbert (29), and Dominic Oraz (38) — the latter confessing to deserting the Nigerian Army in November 2024.


Recovered items included six pump-action guns, 63 rounds of live cartridges, five machetes, one microscope, a military cap, police teargas canisters, handcuffs, a rocket launcher, criminal charms, three Motorola walkie-talkies, a jack knife, a power bank, and N26,000 cash.


Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, praised the operatives for their swift action and assured residents of the Command’s determination to rid the state of violent crime. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
