Cybercrime Crackdown: Police Arraign 113 Foreign Nationals in Abuja

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reiterated the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to combating cybercrime and safeguarding Nigeria's digital space.

This assurance followed the arrest and arraignment of 113 foreign nationals by operatives of the Zone 7 Command and the National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC). The suspects, apprehended on November 3, 2024, in Jahi, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), were reportedly involved in various cybercrimes, including internet fraud and marketing scams.

The police recovered a trove of digital evidence during the operation, including laptops, smartphones, routers, drones, high-capacity servers, gaming equipment, multiple SIM cards, travel documents, and other specialized cyber tools. The sophistication of the recovered items highlights the global threat posed by cybercriminal networks.

Following extensive investigations, the suspects were arraigned at the Federal High Court, Abuja, facing charges of computer-related fraud, unlawful data access, marketing scams, money laundering, conspiracy, and illegal immigration.

The IGP commended the police operatives for their efforts and emphasized the Force’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology to protect Nigerians both physically and digitally. He also pledged continued collaboration with international law enforcement agencies to tackle transnational cybercrime and bring perpetrators to justice.
