DHQ REFUTES ALLEGATION OF GUARDS BRIGADE PLACE ON HIGH ALERT OVER SUSPICION OF COUP PLOT IN NIGERIA
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has vehemently refuted claims of the Guards Brigade being placed on high alert amidst suspicion of a coup plot in Nigeria. The refutation comes in response to a controversial article published by SaharaReporters on February 25, 2024.
According to the article, unusual movements within the Guards Brigade prompted speculation of a coup plot, leading to alleged emergency meetings involving President Bola Tinubu, the Chief of Staff to the President, and the Commander of the Guards Brigade.
In a statement released today, the DHQ dismissed the allegations as "totally false" and emphasized that the Guards Brigade maintains a constant state of readiness in line with its mandate to protect the seat of power and the Federal Capital Territory.
General Christopher Musa OFR, the Chief of Defence Staff, reiterated the unwavering commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to uphold democracy. The DHQ condemned the claims as baseless and urged the public to disregard them.
Furthermore, the DHQ called upon relevant security agencies to take appropriate action against Sahara Reporters for what it described as an "unpatriotic action." Legal action is also being pursued against the publication to address the purported attempt to sow discord and tension in the nation.
