Nigerian Army Arrests Suspected Gun Runner, Recovers 245 Cartridges in Cross River
Troops of the 245 Battalion, operating under Headquarters 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, have arrested a suspected gun runner during an intelligence-led operation in Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The arrest was carried out on Sunday, January 26, 2026, following credible intelligence on illicit arms movement in the area. The suspect, identified as Ojo Friday, is a native of Ochon in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State and a resident of Abomege in Ebonyi State.
During the operation, troops recovered 245 pump-action cartridges believed to be intended for illegal distribution. The suspect and the recovered ammunition are currently in military custody, while preliminary investigations are ongoing.
Reacting to the development, the Commander of 13 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General P.O. Alimikhena, said the operation underscores the Army’s proactive and intelligence-driven approach to internal security. He noted that the Brigade remains committed to disrupting illegal arms supply networks and preventing the spread of small arms and light weapons.
Brigadier General Alimikhena commended the troops for their professionalism and vigilance and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to enhance peace and security across the Brigade’s area of responsibility.
