Nigerian Convicted of Sexual Assault, Kidnapping Among Other Crimes Arrested by U.S. Immigration Authorities, Faces Deportation

United States immigration authorities have taken a Nigerian national, Ayodeji Olamide Ajayi, into custody following his conviction for multiple criminal offences, with arrangements underway for his removal from the country.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) disclosed that Ajayi, whose criminal history includes convictions and charges related to sexual assault, kidnapping, domestic violence, intimidation, trespassing, and obstruction, is expected to be deported to Nigeria.

According to information released by the agency, Ajayi remained in the United States unlawfully after originally entering the country on a student visa in 2007.

His case drew significant attention in 2024 when law enforcement authorities in Tennessee launched a search operation to locate him in connection with an aggravated sexual assault investigation.

Investigators eventually tracked him to Bradley County after he allegedly refused repeated requests to surrender. During negotiations with law enforcement, Ajayi reportedly claimed he was armed and threatened actions that could provoke officers into using deadly force.

Authorities, however, maintained communication with the suspect throughout the standoff and successfully convinced him to surrender without incident. A subsequent search revealed that the weapon he claimed to possess was a toy BB pistol rather than a real firearm.

At the time of his arrest, Ajayi was wanted on multiple felony warrants, including allegations of aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping, aggravated burglary, sexual battery, and domestic assault.

Following his arrest and subsequent legal proceedings, U.S. immigration officials confirmed that he is now being processed for deportation.
