Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Death of Kogi School Teacher, Set to Commence Prosecution

The Kogi State Police Command has arrested three suspects allegedly linked to the death of Mariam Usman, a staff member of Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ugbamaka, Ofu Local Government Area.

The command said the suspects would be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction following the conclusion of investigations by the State Criminal Investigation Department.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, investigations revealed that the deceased was allegedly assaulted on June 17, 2026, by Abdullahi Isiaka at her residence following a disciplinary action taken against his 11-year-old son at the school.

The same day, the police said Mariam Usman was allegedly attacked again by Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo while she was heading to a mosque for prayers.

Further investigation revealed that on June 18, 2026, Ojonojima Mary, the younger sister of Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo, allegedly visited the school premises and assaulted the teacher at her workplace.

Following the attacks, the victim received medical treatment at Grace Clinic, Ugbamaka, before being referred to Eleojo Clinic, Okpo, for further care. She later died on June 25, 2026.

The police said the investigation established a prima facie case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide against the three suspects — Ojonojima Mary, Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo, and Abdullahi Isiaka.

The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Naziru Bello Kankarofi, commended detectives from the Homicide Section for their professionalism and commitment to ensuring justice. He urged members of the public to avoid taking laws into their own hands and to always seek lawful channels in resolving disputes.
