POLICE FIRE OFFICER WHO SAID IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT MORE BLACK PEOPLE DID NOT DIE OF CORONAVIRUS
A police officer in Louisiana has been fired for saying it is unfortunate that more black people did not die of Coronavirus.
Officer Steve Aucoin on May 15, commented on Facebook while responding to another commenter who wrote, "virus that was created to kill all the BLACKS is death."
Officer responded and said: "Well it didn't work" "how unfortunate," according to screenshots shown by KLFY.
The chief of police in Kaplan, Joshua Hardy, in a statement on Facebook, apologized on behalf of the police department for officer Aucoin's vile comment.
He announced that officer Steve Aucoin's employment was terminated on that same day.
Hardy emphasized that the department does not tolerate such behaviour.
Speaking to KLFY, the police chief said "as a police officer, we're held to a higher standard than normal civilians. So you got to watch what you do, you got to watch what you say."
"You can't just go and post anything you want on social media."
