SERVICE CHIEFS APPOINTMENT OR SACK IS A PRESIDENTIAL PREROGATIVE- PRESIDENCY

The Nigeria Presidency has reiterated that the appointment or sack of Service Chiefs remains an exclusive right of the President.

President Muhammadu Buhari restated this on Tuesday, July 21 through his aide, Femi Adesina shortly after the Senate called on Nigeria’s service chiefs to step aside following the continuous rise in insecurity in the country.

Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, released a statement stating:

“President Buhari notes the resolution of the Senate asking Service Chiefs to resign or be sacked. The Presidency reiterates that appointment or sack of Service Chiefs is a Presidential prerogative, and the Commander-in-Chief will do the best for the country at all times.”

Recall that Eons Intelligence reported that President Buhari on June 18 chided the service Chiefs over the rising insecurity in the country.

The Commander in Chief expressed his dissatisfaction when he met with the Service Chiefs at the Presidential Villa in Abuja last month.

The Senate’s call for the Service Chiefs to step aside came as a result of the recent killings of soldiers at the frontlines as well as reports of lack of morale and alleged voluntary resignation of many soldiers.

Senator Ali Ndume, who moved the motion termed the development as very worrying.

During deliberations, Senator Francis Fadahunsi called for the service chiefs to step aside as part of his contributions to the discourse on the motion.

Other senators agreed and passed the resolution for the service chiefs who have been in office since July 2015 to step aside.
