Three Kidnappers Killed, Hostages Rescued as Police Intensify Anti-Kidnap Efforts
In a renewed effort to tackle kidnapping and bolster internal security across the country, the Nigeria Police Force has recorded significant successes in recent operations. This includes the rescue of hostages, recovery of arms and ammunition, and the neutralization of suspected kidnappers in various states.
On December 31, 2024, police operatives in Kwande Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State successfully conducted a high-risk rescue mission following the kidnapping of one Tor Gajir by unknown gunmen. Acting on a distress call, officers from the Vandiekya Divisional Headquarters tracked the suspects, leading to the arrest of Desmond Ahar. Under interrogation, Ahar revealed the location of the kidnappers’ den in Adikpo, Benue State.
Upon arrival, the police encountered fierce resistance from the kidnappers, resulting in a gun duel. Three suspects were neutralized, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. The victim, Tor Gajir, was rescued unhurt and provided with medical attention. The operation also led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, six loaded magazines, and other live ammunition. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover additional arms.
In a related incident on December 28, 2024, police operatives in Nasarawa State discovered an abandoned Sienna vehicle along the Keffi-Kaduna Highway near Angwan Wayo Village. Investigations revealed the vehicle was linked to a kidnapping incident. The officers tracked and rescued two hostages unhurt, while the kidnappers fled. Efforts to apprehend the culprits continue.
Further showcasing their commitment to public safety, Bayelsa State police operatives intercepted a suspect, Usman Mohammed, on January 7, 2025, en route to Rivers State. A thorough search of his vehicle uncovered one AK-47 rifle, one Type 09 AR, two AK-47 magazines, two Type 09 AR magazines, and 120 rounds of assorted ammunition. The suspect is currently in custody, with investigations ongoing.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the operatives for their bravery and professionalism, urging them to sustain the momentum in ensuring internal security. The IGP also called on communities to remain vigilant and collaborate with law enforcement to enhance public safety.
These recent successes underscore the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of all Nigerians.
