TRAGEDY AVERTED AS NIGERIA ARMY FOIL BOKO HARAM/ISWAP AMBUSH ON CONVOY OF BORNO STATE RESETTLEMENT AND RELIEF COMMITTEE OFFICIALS

Nigeria Army on Friday averted a tragedy as Boko Haram attacked the convoy of the Borno State Resettlement and Relief Committee officials who were coming from Baga town after routine distribution of relief items to Internally-Displaced Persons, IDPs.

Eons Intelligence gathered that the terrorists attacked the Governor's convoy at Jigalta village along the Maiduguri-Gajiram-Monguno Road located within Guzamala Local Government Area. However, the gallant troops escorting the dignitaries engaged the criminals and killed 8, while the other terrorists fled.

The troops also recovered 3 Ak47 rifles from the scene of the crime.

Asides from 2 soldiers who sustained injuries during the encounter, none of the dignitaries came to any harm as all arrived at Maiduguri safely.

This encounter once again brings to fore the security risk of Governor Babagana Zulum resettling IDPs to their ancestral homes in Borno while the Boko Haram war is still ongoing.

Recall Eons Intelligence experts hailed the move as noble but ill-timed as the insurgents might infiltrate the IDPs, brainwash and recruit fighters and spies, and even kidnap some in large numbers to use as bargaining chips.

ADVISORY: It has become imperative for the Borno State Governor to consider visiting resettled IDPs in helicopters pending the total annihilation of the insurgents.
