Troops Eliminate Two Lakurawa Terrorists, Recover Weapons During Foiled Attack in Kebbi

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a successful counterterrorism operation in the Sabarumawa axis of Kebbi State.

The operation, carried out on June 27, 2026, was part of ongoing military efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and improve security across the North-West.

According to the military, the operation followed credible intelligence indicating that members of the Lakurawa terrorist group were planning an attack on Sabarumawa community.

Acting on the intelligence, troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 deployed to the area and strategically positioned themselves along the suspected route of the terrorists in a bid to intercept and prevent the planned assault.

As the terrorists advanced towards the community, they were engaged by the troops in a fierce gun battle. The superior firepower of the security forces overwhelmed the attackers, resulting in the neutralisation of two terrorists, while others fled into nearby forests with varying degrees of injuries.

A follow-up search of the area led to the recovery of several operational items, including AK-47 rifles, loaded AK-47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition, and one motorcycle believed to have been used by the fleeing terrorists.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist and criminal groups across the North-West, while urging members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely intelligence to strengthen ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
