Troops of 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), as part of the ongoing Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A, have neutralized two kidnappers and apprehended suspected gunrunners while recovering arms and ammunition in Plateau and Kaduna states.
On March 12, 2025, troops launched an offensive operation in Kuru and Turu, Jos South LGA of Plateau State, targeting criminal hideouts. During the engagement, the troops encountered armed kidnappers and terrorists near the high grounds of Kuru, eliminating two suspects. A search of the area led to the recovery of 18 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) and 9 rounds of 5.56 x 45mm ammunition.
In a separate operation the same day, troops mounted snap checkpoints along the Bokkos - Bot - Mangu road in Bokkos LGA, Plateau State, following intelligence reports on arms smuggling. The operation resulted in the arrest of 21-year-old Sengi David, a known gunrunner from Kopal Village in Panyam District, Mangu LGA. Troops recovered one AK-47 magazine and 48 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition from the suspect, who remains in custody for further investigation.
Similarly, on March 11, 2025, troops executed a sting operation to apprehend Blessed Paul, a 22-year-old wanted kidnapper, terrorist, and arms dealer, in Garaje Community, Jema’a LGA, Kaduna State. Paul had fled to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to evade arrest but was lured back with the promise of selling an AK-47 rifle for N1.5 million. At the agreed location in Garaje Community, troops posing as buyers successfully arrested him. A subsequent search uncovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, and two rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition. The suspect remains in custody, providing intelligence that could lead to the arrest of his associates.
Additionally, on March 12, 2025, troops launched a rescue operation on the outskirts of Josho Village in Daffo District, Bokkos LGA, Plateau State, based on intelligence that kidnappers were holding hostages in the area. Upon sighting the approaching troops, the kidnappers abandoned their captives and fled. Troops searched the hideout and successfully rescued two female victims: 11-year-old Nanbam Adamu and Dorcas Wantu, both from Mbor Village, Mushere District, Bokkos LGA. After being debriefed, the victims were safely reunited with their families. Troops are currently conducting follow-up operations to track down the fleeing kidnappers.
