TROOPS OF 1 DIVISION NEUTRALIZE 14 INSURGENTS, RESCUE KIDNAPPED VICTIMS, RECOVER WEAPONS IN NIGER, KADUNA STATES
Continuing the operations in Kaduna and Niger States to eliminate violent extremists, insurgents, and criminal elements, the highly motivated troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army achieved notable successes. In Niger State on December 23, 2023, troops neutralized 2 insurgents in Madawaki, recovering 2 AK rifles, 2 AK rifle magazines, and 1 motorcycle. Proceeding to the camp of eliminated insurgent leader Ali Kachalla, troops rescued 13 kidnapped victims and discovered items, including an international passport.
The troops targeted an insurgent camp led by Alhaji Laye, recovering 4 AK 47 rifle magazines and destroying the camp. In Madawaki, an insurgents' storehouse was discovered and destroyed, containing assorted soft drinks, bottled water, peak milk, energy drinks, a generator, and food items.
In Kaduna State, troops neutralized 3 insurgents in Maidaro, recovering weapons and motorcycles. In Kidandan-Yadi, troops destroyed an insurgent camp, neutralizing 5 insurgents and recovering 12 motorcycles.
At the Kachia axis on December 21, 2023, troops launched an ambush, neutralizing 3 kidnappers and rescuing Mr. Rabiu Ahmed. Recovered items included money, mobile phones, a motorcycle, and cutlasses. On December 24, troops ambushed insurgents at Kwanar Batero in Kaduna State, neutralizing one insurgent and recovering weapons.
Major General Valentine Okoro, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army, and Force Commander Operation WHIRL PUNCH, expressed satisfaction with the operations, commending the troops for their achievements and urging them to persist in denying insurgents and criminal elements freedom of action.
