
Troops Record Major Successes in Operation Egwua A Tite II in Kogi State
Troops of 12 Brigade Nigerian Army have continued to consolidate gains in the ongoing Operation Egwua A Tite II aimed at tackling banditry and restoring peace across Kogi State. The operation, which commenced on 1 September 2025, has already yielded significant results with multiple successes recorded.
During the early phase of the operation, troops of 126 Battalion, led by the Commanding Officer in conjunction with Other Hybrid Forces (OHF), encountered bandits along their axis of advance in Tunga general area. In the ensuing firefight, two bandits were neutralised.
To further boost morale, the Commander 12 Brigade Nigerian Army and Force Commander Operation Accord III, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, personally led exploitation operations along the axis of advance, resulting in the destruction of several bandit settlements while maintaining dominance of the general area through patrols and ambushes.
On 2 September 2025, acting on credible intelligence, troops with close air support from 405 Helicopter Combat Training Group launched an air combat mission in Ankomi, engaging fleeing bandits and neutralising scores of them.
In a related development, troops of 126 Battalion, under the leadership of the Commanding Officer, conducted clearance operations in Aleke, Ungwan Soni, and Ungwan Nyaba communities on 3 September 2025. During the operation, one Mr. Pabo Suleiman and his two children were successfully rescued and reunited with their family. Additionally, five locally made dane guns were recovered.
Notably, on 5 September 2025, a fierce gun battle at a bandits’ hideout ahead of Tunga led to the neutralisation of notorious bandit commander Kachalla Bala and five of his fighters, according to confirmed intelligence. On the same day, troops working alongside OHF executed a successful ambush along a suspected bandit supply route at the Agbede–Adankolo Bridge (popularly known as Mosalanci Boka), neutralising a logistics courier. Items recovered during the operation included one motorcycle, two mobile phones, and an AK-47 magazine loaded with 20 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
The Nigerian Army reiterated that troops of 12 Brigade remain committed to eliminating banditry, criminality, and other security threats in Kogi State and its environs. It added that Operation Egwua A Tite II continues to deliver positive outcomes and troops will remain resolute in their mission to restore lasting peace and security to the region.
