NIGERIA TO OPEN LAND BORDERS SOON

President Muhammadu Buhari has indicated he would reopen Nigeria’s land borders "as soon as possible."

Recall the Nigeria Government on October 14, 2019 ordered the closure of  its  land borders to all movement of goods as part of efforts to thwart smuggling of rice, arms, and other goods.

In a statement released on Tuesday, President Buhari said his administration is looking into reopening the borders as he believes that he has sent a strong no-smuggling message to the neighbouring countries.

“In my meeting with State Governors today I explained that the closure of Nigeria’s land borders was partly an attempt to control the smuggling in of weapons & drugs. Now that the message has sunk in with our neighbours,we’re looking into reopening the borders as soon as possible,” President Buhari said.

Nigeria is bordered by Benin, Cameroon, Chad and Niger.
