MILITARY RAIDS PIRATES HIDEOUTS, RESCUES FIVE KIDNAPPED FOREIGNERS IN NIGER DELTA

Nigerian Army has rescued five foreigners abducted by pirates onboard MT RIO MITONG and MT DJIBLOHO in Yellow Island. 


On May 9, 2020, some suspected gunmen attacked the vessels and abducted five foreigners comprising of 3 Russians, one Ukrainian and one Equatorial Guinean.


In a joint rescue operation conducted by the Nigerian Navy Ship PATHFINDER and soldiers of 142 Battalion, on Tuesday, October 6, the camps of the pirates at Ibiakafemo, Idinkiri, Tombie and Ogboma in the Niger Delta were dislodged by the gallant soldiers.

Consequently, the attack led the pirates to surrender to the soldiers and handed over the five kidnapped foreigners at Iwofe Waterfront.


The rescued persons are currently at the Nigerian Navy Ship PATHFINDER medical centre receiving medical attention.

Similarly, the Joint team intercepted 2 large wooden boats laden with an estimated 350,000 litres of suspected stolen illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and about 10,000 litres of stolen crude oil. 


The stolen petroleum products have been recovered to the Base.
