8 Division Strike Team Neutralises 11 Bandits, Recovers Weapons in Sokoto
Troops of the 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West, operating under Operation Fansan Yamma, have neutralised 11 bandits and recovered a cache of weapons during a successful counter-banditry mission in Sokoto State.
The operation, carried out by a specialised strike team, took place near Kurawa Village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area. According to military sources, the mission was launched following credible intelligence indicating that bandits were mobilising to attack Tara Village, a key route frequently used by criminal groups.
The troops executed a coordinated ambush, engaging the armed group in a fierce gunbattle. Eleven bandits were killed, while others escaped with injuries. Items recovered at the scene included eight AK-47 rifles, five additional magazines, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
The successful mission is said to have disrupted a planned attack and significantly weakened the operations of bandit and terrorist networks active within the Sabon Birni corridor—one of the region’s most volatile flashpoints.
The Army noted that the operation reflects its continued commitment to safeguarding communities in Sokoto State and tackling the threat of banditry and terrorism across the North West.
