AKINWUMI ADESINA SWORN IN AS PRESIDENT OF THE AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK
Dr Akinwumi Ayodeji Adesina has been sworn in for a second term in office as the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
He was re-elected on Thursday, August 27th, 2020, during the annual meetings of the AfDB.
Adesina was sworn in on Tuesday, September 1st, 2020, at the AfDB headquarters in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, in an event that was broadcast virtually.
He is the first president to be elected by 100 percent of votes by regional and non-regional members of the bank.
The oath of office was administered by Kenneth Ofori-Attah, Ghana’s finance Minister and Chairman of the AfDB board of Governors.
Adesina, who is a former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development in Nigeria, was first elected in May 2015, being the first Nigerian to occupy the position.
Until his appointment as Minister in 2010, he was Vice President of Policy and Partnerships for the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa.
He was re-elected on Thursday, August 27th, 2020, during the annual general meeting of the AfDB.
