Armed Militia Neutralised After Attempt to Disarm Troops in Plateau

Troops of 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) have neutralised an armed militia following an attempted escape during an operation in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident followed the arrest of the suspect on 4 September 2025 at Kaskra, where he was found in possession of one AK-47 rifle and 11 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition. During interrogation, the militia confessed to involvement in multiple criminal activities in the Barkin Ladi general area and volunteered to lead troops to his cohorts’ hideout for the recovery of additional weapons.

Acting on this lead, troops launched a follow-up operation on 5 September 2025 to the identified hideout. However, in the course of the search, the suspect made a desperate attempt to snatch a soldier’s rifle in a bid to escape. The troops responded swiftly, neutralising him on the spot. His remains have since been deposited in a morgue.

The Nigerian Army, through Operation ENDURING PEACE, reaffirmed its resolve to sustain aggressive operations against armed criminals, stressing that troops will not relent until the entire Joint Operations Area is fully secured from miscreants threatening peace and stability.
