Army debunks report of clerics’ abduction at Yari’s residence in Zamfara
The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports claiming that a group of Islamic scholars were abducted from the residence of former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, in Talata Mafara Local Government Area.
Headquarters 8 Division, Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, described the reports circulating on social media and other platforms as misleading and clarified that no cleric was abducted at the senator’s residence.
The Army said intelligence reports indicated that some persons were abducted while travelling from the Sububu forest axis in Bakura Local Government Area towards Talata Mafara.
Troops, in collaboration with other security agencies and local intelligence networks, have intensified efforts to locate and rescue the victims.
The military urged the public to disregard sensationalised and unverified reports that could cause unnecessary panic or undermine ongoing security operations.
Residents were also advised to remain calm and vigilant while providing security agencies with timely and actionable information to support efforts to resolve the situation.
