BEWARE OF SCAMMERS: US MISSION WARNS NIGERIANS
The United States Mission to Nigeria has warned the Nigerian public about scammers allegedly posing as agents of the EducationUSA, thereby using the name to defraud and extract money from unsuspecting members of the public, especially university admission seekers.
These conmen are said to fleece hard working Nigerians of their hard earned resources in the guise of payment for placement into Ivy League colleges through the “EducationUSA Ivy League Programme.”
The mission has disassociated itself from such schemes and warned Nigerians that the messages are fake and from fraudulent individuals.
The U.S. Mission to Nigeria draws the general public’s attention to fake targeted electronic emails and social media claiming to facilitate admission/placement to a non-existent Ivy League Programme. Fraudsters begin by soliciting membership fees and then seek to increase contact.
"To be clear, EducationUSA services are free to aspiring students. Do not pay money to anyone asking for fees. The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate in Lagos warn Nigerians not to fall victim to this scam. The official source for information on EducationUSA is located on the website and we never encourage money payments to individuals", so says the mission.
Ivy League Schools are the most prestigious universities and colleges in the United States. Although there are a host of other world class institutions in the country, the Ivy League citadels are the toast of intellectual tourists globally.
They are: Harvard University, Massachusetts, Yale University, Connecticut, Princeton University, New Jersey, Brown University, Rhodes Island, Darthmouth College, New Hampshire, University of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania, Cornel University, New York and Columbia University, New York.
