BREAKING: FG INTERVENES IN UNILAG CRISIS, ORDERS BABALAKIN AND OGUNDIPE TO VACATE OFFICE

Following the recent crisis rocking the University of Lagos, the Federal Government has ordered the Chairman of Council of the University of Lagos, Dr B. O. Babalakin and the Vice Chancellor, Prof.Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe vacate office pending the outcome of investigations by the presidential panel.


In a statement released by the Federal Ministry of Education on Friday, the Federal government told the Chairman of Council of the University of Lagos and the Vice Chancellor to "recuse themselves from official duties, pending the outcome of the Special Visitation Panel set up by the President."


On August 12, Babalakin's Governing Council sacked Ogundipe over alleged financial misconduct and announced Prof. Theophilus as Acting Vice Chancellor of the University.


Ogundipe, however, rejected the council's decision claiming due process had not been followed.


Following the Federal Government's directive, Acting Vice Chancellor Soyombo who recently resumed office has also been sacked


The special Investigation panel set up by the Presidency is expected to submit its report in two weeks.
