BREAKING: FG, NLC MEETING RESCHEDULED FOR 7PM TODAY
In the build-up to the planned strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), the Federal Government has said it will meet with the unions today by 7 pm to avert the action slated for Monday, September 28.
The Federal Government and the unions had scheduled the meeting for tomorrow at the Presidential Villa Banquet Hall in Abuja.
The spokesman, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Charles Akpan, confirmed the development in a text message to The PUNCH this afternoon.
The two meetings earlier held by the unions and the Government over the hike in electricity tariffs and fuel pump price ended in deadlock.
As parts of the efforts of the Government and Non-Governmental Organisation to halt the action, a National Industrial Court had issued an interim injunction restraining the unions from embarking on the strike action, but the unions insisted that the action will commence on Monday.
Meanwhile, several affiliates of the NLC across the country had ordered their members to embark on the indefinite industrial strike action, Eons Intelligence reports.
