Breaking: INEC Declares APC’s Lucky Aiyedatiwa Winner of Ondo Governorship Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the Ondo State governorship election held on Saturday.
The announcement was made by the Returning Officer, Prof. Olayemi Akinwunmi, at the state collation center, INEC headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure. Akinwunmi, who also serves as the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Lokoja, Kogi State, announced the result at 2:29 p.m.
According to the final tally, Aiyedatiwa secured 366,781 votes, defeating his closest rival, Agboola Ajayi of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 117,845 votes. Adeyemi Nejo of the African Democratic Party (ADP) finished third with 4,138 votes.
“Having satisfied all the requirements of the law and scored the majority of lawful votes, Aiyedatiwa Lucky Orimisan of the APC is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Akinwunmi said.
The APC candidate achieved a landslide victory by winning in all 18 local government areas of the state.
Aiyedatiwa, who previously served as deputy to the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and assumed office following Akeredolu’s death in December 2023, will now serve a four-year term as Ondo State governor.
