CBN DEBUNK DEVALUING NAIRA TO N631 PER DOLLAR
The Central Bank of Nigeria has denied devaluing the naira to N631 to the dollar from N461.6.
Recall that Daily Trust earlier reported that following the CBN governor Emefiele’s meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja over the issue of the exchange rate, the apex bank decided to devalue the nation’s currency.
The report added that at the resumption of the weekly bidding for foreign exchange, the apex bank sold the spot rate to banks on behalf of their customers at N631 to a dollar and most bidders got the full amount they requested.
The CBN in a press statement on Thursday morning 1st June 2023 categorically stated that the news is false and should be disregarded. It further stated that the exchange rate for the investors and exporters windows on Thursday morning, 1st June 2023 traded at N465/$1 and has been stable around this rate for a while.
