
COAS Commends Troops, Orders Intensified Operations Against Security Threats
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede NAM, has commended troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE and the 401 Special Forces Brigade for their dedication and professionalism in combating security threats in Benue and neighboring states. He also directed them to intensify offensive operations to sustain the fight against terrorism and other criminal activities.
General Oluyede issued the directive during his maiden operational visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE and the 401 Special Forces Brigade at Joe Akahaan Cantonment, Makurdi. He was received by the Commander of Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Lewis Lepdung, and the Commander of the 401 Special Forces Brigade, Brigadier General AS Bugaje.
During a briefing, Major General Lepdung outlined the successes achieved in the ongoing operations while highlighting challenges faced by the troops. In response, the COAS reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to their welfare and operational effectiveness, pledging to provide necessary resources and combat enablers to enhance their efficiency.
Addressing the troops, General Oluyede expressed deep appreciation for their relentless efforts in safeguarding lives and securing the region. He lauded their bravery, discipline, and sacrifices, emphasizing that their welfare and that of their families remain a top priority. He assured them that any challenges affecting their mission would be promptly addressed.
Reiterating the Nigerian Army’s resolve to combat both internal and external security threats, the COAS urged troops to remain resolute and intensify their offensive against criminal elements. He assured them of continued support to ensure their operational success.
As part of his visit, General Oluyede inspected ongoing projects at the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering and the 401 Special Forces Brigade. These initiatives aim to address accommodation shortages and improve the living conditions of personnel and their families within the barracks community.
Concluding his visit, the COAS reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the Nigerian Army’s capabilities, ensuring troops remain well-equipped, motivated, and ready to defend the nation.
