Commanding Officer, Six Soldiers Killed in IED Blast After Repelling Attack in Monguno
Troops of Sector 3, Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have repelled an isolated terrorist attack on a military position at Charlie 13 in Monguno, Borno State.
The incident occurred late on April 12, 2026, when insurgents launched an assault on the location. Troops engaged the attackers in a fierce exchange of fire, successfully forcing them to retreat while maintaining control of the position.
However, tragedy struck shortly after the engagement when the Commanding Officer, who was moving to assess the situation at the frontline, encountered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The explosion severely damaged his vehicle, resulting in his death alongside six other personnel.
Military authorities described the officer’s actions as a demonstration of exceptional leadership and bravery, noting that he had advanced towards the frontline in a bid to personally evaluate the situation and support his troops.
Operation HADIN KAI expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the officer and the fallen soldiers, describing their sacrifice as a testament to their courage, dedication, and commitment to national security.
The military reaffirmed its resolve to continue operations against insurgents in the North-East, vowing that the sacrifices of the fallen personnel will not be in vain.
