COURT ACQUITS FORMER MINISTER, AMINU WALI OF N950M FRAUD CHARGES
The Federal High Court sitting in Kano on Friday acquitted and discharged a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aminu Wali, who was accused of receiving N950m campaign funds from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2015 presidential election.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prosecuted Wali and Mansur Ahmed on three-count charges bordering on corruption.
The anti-graft agency accused them of receiving illicit campaign funds from the PDP in 2015, an act that contravened Section 1 of the Money Laundering Provision Act 2011.
Delivering judgement on Friday, December 11, the presiding judge, Lewis Allagoa, said the prosecution failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
He therefore discharged and acquitted the defendants.
