LAGOS FLOOD SWEEPS AWAY 4 YEAR OLD GIRL

Thursday’s heavy downpour in Lagos resulted in tragedy as a 4-year-old girl, identified as Azizat, was swept away by a raging flood around Olabode Street, in Papa-Asafa area of Agege, Lagos State.


It was reported that some residents came out of their homes, lamenting that the rain flooded their homes.


In a bid to curb further disaster, some residents had to use buckets to bail out water from their homes, report says.


Speaking on the incident, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, said a search and rescue operation to locate the whereabouts of the missing victim had commenced.


“A response team from the agency has immediately commenced the search and rescue after reports of a four-year-old child being carried away by the flood were received by witnesses,” Oke-Osanyintolu told reporters. 


Every rainy season, Lagos, the commercial hub of Nigeria yearly deal with flood caused by bad roads and blocked drainage.
