COURT REMANDS DISMISSED POLICE INSPECTOR ACCUSED OF KILLING KEKE DRIVER IN RIVERS

A Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has remanded the dismissed Police Inspector, Oba Christian, who allegedly killed a tricycle driver, at the maximum correctional Centre in the State capital.


Recall that the embattled officer was accused of killing Edmond Ikechukwu, a keke driver on December 10, at Rukpokwu axis of Obi/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State over alleged refusal to pay N100 bribe.

The dismissed inspector was remanded on Monday by Chief Magistrate A.O.Amadi-Nna for lack of jurisdiction after the police in the State arraigned him.


Chief Magistrate Amadi-Nna also advised that the case file be transferred to the Director of Public Prosecution and adjourned the matter to February 25, 2021.


The defendant, according to the court, committed an offense punishable under Section 319(1) of the criminal code, Cap 37, Vol 11, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.
