The Cross River State Government has identified and isolated 10 individuals who reportedly developed symptoms after coming into contact with a foreign national linked to a recent COVID-19 case in the state.

According to a report by Daily Trust, the individuals were traced through contact-tracing efforts conducted by health officials following the confirmation of the case involving a Chinese national in Akamkpa Local Government Area.

Speaking on the development, the State Epidemiologist, Dr. Inyang Ekpenyong, disclosed that the affected individuals have been placed under movement restrictions in their homes to prevent further spread of the virus. She added that the index patient is currently receiving treatment at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital and is responding well.

Ekpenyong emphasized that COVID-19 has not been completely eradicated and urged residents to continue observing preventive measures, including regular hand hygiene, use of face masks, and adherence to public health guidelines.

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, confirmed the re-emergence of the virus in the state, noting that necessary public health measures had been activated to contain any potential outbreak.

He reassured residents that there was no cause for panic, stressing that while COVID-19 remains a global concern due to cross-border transmission, the state government is fully prepared to manage the situation and prevent escalation.
