Troops Foil Kidnap Attempt, Rescue Victims After Intense Gun Battle in Taraba
Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), in collaboration with officers of the Nigeria Police Force stationed at Samta, successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt at Muji Town along the Takum-Jalingo road on March 29, 2025.
Acting on distress calls from road users, the troops swiftly mobilized to the scene, where they engaged the armed assailants in a fierce gun battle. Overpowered by the troops' superior firepower, the kidnappers were forced to abandon their victims and flee into the forest.
Among those rescued were Mr. Yakubu Usman, an indigene of Angwan Abuja in Takum, and Mr. Godwin Peter, an indigene of Angwan Dadin Kowa, who sustained injuries during the attack. The victims were immediately evacuated to a medical facility for urgent medical attention, while other passengers of the targeted 18-seater Toyota bus were able to continue their journey safely.
The 6 Brigade Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Taraba State and beyond. Security authorities have urged the public to provide timely and credible intelligence to aid ongoing efforts in combating criminal activities.
