David Moyes Returns as Everton Manager After Sean Dyche’s Sacking

David Moyes has rejoined Everton as manager following the dismissal of Sean Dyche, the club announced on Saturday.

"David is widely recognized as one of the Premier League’s most experienced and accomplished managers, having led Everton for more than 500 matches from 2002 to 2013," the club stated.

Everton’s executive chairman, Marc Watts, expressed confidence in Moyes, saying:

"With over a decade of experience at the club, he is the right leader to propel us through our final season at Goodison Park and into our new stadium. We look forward to working with David to build the foundation of a new era for Everton."

Moyes, 61, shared his excitement about the appointment:

"It’s great to be back! I enjoyed 11 wonderful and successful years at Everton and didn’t hesitate when I was offered the opportunity to rejoin this great club."

The decision to bring back Moyes was made by Everton's new owners, the Friedkin Group, shortly after Dyche's sacking. Dyche was dismissed following a poor run of form, culminating in a defeat at Bournemouth on January 4. Despite his departure, Everton managed a 2-0 FA Cup third-round victory over Peterborough under the temporary leadership of under-18s coach Leighton Baines and club captain Seamus Coleman.

Moyes, who signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, takes the helm with the immediate task of steering Everton away from the relegation zone. His first match in charge will be against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Wednesday.

Moyes remains a fan favorite after his successful first stint at the club, which spanned 2002 to 2013. During that time, Everton achieved a fourth-place league finish in 2005 and reached the FA Cup final in 2009. His return comes as Everton prepares to transition to their new home at Bramley Moore Dock Stadium next season.

The appointment follows Everton's reported pursuit of other candidates, including former Chelsea boss Graham Potter, who opted to join West Ham, and Jose Mourinho, who reportedly distanced himself from the role.

Dyche’s two-year tenure ended with the club just one point above the relegation zone after managing only one win in his last 11 games. Moyes will now aim to revive Everton’s fortunes and lead the team into a new chapter.
