BANDITS KILL AT LEAST 15 SOLDIERS IN KATSINA (PHOTOS)

At least 16 soldiers and officers lost their lives on Saturday, July 18 when troops on Operation Sahel Sanity advanced to capture ‘Dangote’- one of the fortresses of notorious armed bandits located at Shimfida, in a forest in Jibia LGA of Katsina State. 


Sources say the slain officers were advancing on foot while the bandits shot at them from the hill.  

The Defence Headquarters confirmed the incident but gave conflicting reports on the figures of the gallant soldiers who lost their lives.

According to a press release by the Ag Director Defence Media Operations, Brigadier General Benard Onyeuko, only three soldiers died during the encounter while 17 bandits were killed. 


Some of the Soldiers that lost their lives on Saturday, July 18.


“Regrettably, one brave officer and 2 gallant soldiers paid the supreme price while 4 other soldiers were wounded in action. However, the wounded in action soldiers are currently responding positively to treatment in a military medical facility,” Brigadier General Onyeuko said. 


However, the photos of the incident obtained by Eons Intelligence proves that at least 15 soldiers lost their lives during the encounter.

The Defence Headquarters also claimed that the following weapons were recovered from the fleeing bandits: 5 AK 47 Rifles, 3 Dane guns, 2 AK 47 Rifle magazines, 152 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition and 7 motorcycles.
