CLUBS IN EPL TO USE FIVE SUBSTITUTES WHEN SEASON REOPENS
Clubs in the English Premier League (EPL) will be able to use five substitutes, rather than the usual three when the league reopens on June 17th.
This was confirmed in a statement released by the EPL.
However, this decision is temporary, it allows the clubs to rotate players and keep them fresh for the packed schedule after a three-month suspension caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.
A huge chunk of the 20 top flight clubs are set to play nine matches within a six-week period.
“For the remainder of the 2019/2020 season, the number of substitutes that can be used during a match will increase from three to five players,” a Premier League statement said after a meeting of shareholders on Thursday.
“This is in line with the temporary law amendment made by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) last month.”
