Operatives of the Delta State Police Command has rescued a kidnapped victim and arrested two suspected drug barons in separate operations, recovering a large quantity of illicit drugs and a stolen vehicle.

In a statement issued today, the Command said that on October 12, 2025, at about 2:00 a.m., armed men invaded an apartment in Ovian Aladja, attacked the occupants, robbed them, and abducted a woman. Upon receiving the distress call around 2:00 p.m., the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ovian Aladja Division, CSP Friday Ekundayo, swiftly mobilized his team to track down the kidnappers.

The operatives trailed the suspects to a forest along Iyara community, where the kidnappers, sensing the police’s presence, abandoned the victim and fled. The woman was rescued unhurt and reunited with her family, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

In a related development, operatives of the Crack Squad attached to the Delta State Command, acting on credible intelligence, stormed a hideout at Effurun GRA around 5:00 a.m. on the same day and arrested two suspected drug dealers — 33-year-old Igwe Samson and 39-year-old Abalum Sunday.

A search of their Sienna vehicle led to the recovery of 450 bottles of CSP codeine, 188 bottles of Bargadine, 208 sachets of Tramadol 100mg, 300 sachets of Swinol, 100 sachets of Tramadol 500mg, 50 sachets of Rophynol, and a bag of weed suspected to be cannabis. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had been in the drug business for about two years, sourcing their supplies from Onitsha and traveling mostly at night to evade arrest.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the swift and courageous efforts of the DPO and his men. He urged youths to desist from criminal activities and drug abuse, noting that substance misuse remains a major driver of crime and poses severe health risks.
