#ENDSARS: WE DID NOT SHOOT AT ANY CIVILIAN IN LEKKI – NIGERIAN ARMY

The Nigerian Army has said it did not shoot any civilian at the Lekki Toll gate on October 20, 2020.

The Army has come under attack and condemnation from Nigerians after a viral video which surfaced on the internet showed that military men opened fire on unarmed #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki tollgate last Tuesday, October 20.

The Nigerian Army, in a statement released by its Acting Deputy PRO, Osoba Olaniyi, on Tuesday, October 27, debunked the allegations, and revealed the claims are from the hand work of mischief makers who will stop at nothing to tarnish its image.

It said that the allegations leveled are untrue, unfounded, and are aimed at causing anarchy in the Nation.

The Nigerian Army noted that from the onset of the #ENDSARS protest, there was no time personnel of the Military were involved.

It however stated that the Lagos State Government called on its intervention after a 24-hour curfew was declared in the State following series of violence and bloodshed that accompanied the protests which led to several police stations being burnt, and policemen killed.

The Army Deputy PRO, who said that the Lagos State Government deployed the Military to help restore normalcy, disclosed that it followed all laid down procedures for Internal Security Operations and all soldiers involved acted within the confines of the Rules of Engagement (ROE).

He admonished Nigerians to disregard this claim as there is no atom of truth in it.
