EUROPE WILL “DISSAPEAR” IF WEST SEND NUCLEAR MISSILE TO UKRAINE -PUTIN WARNS.
The Russian government has threatened to make ‘Europe disappear’ in a nuclear apocalypse if Western leaders supply missiles to Ukraine.
Vladimir Putin’s top political ally Viacheslav Volodin, who is also head of the State Duma, warned such a move would provoke a ‘nuclear conflict’ on the continent.
The threat comes after Poland’s Ex-foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski reportedly called for the transfer of nukes to Ukraine's President Zelensky to strengthen his defence.
Ukraine has been appealing for more weaponry but the West has been reluctant amid Russian warnings and the attritional war in the Donbas.
The country needs 1,000 howitzers, 500 tanks and 1,000 drones among other heavy weapons, Presidential Adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said on Monday.
Volodin has now repudiated, and as a key figure in Russian politics, his words are not to be taken lightly.
Recall the relationship between Russia and Ukraine became hostile after the 2014 Ukrainian revolution, which was followed by Russia's annexation of Crimea from Ukraine, and due to Russia's backing for the separatist fighters of the Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic in war, conflicts that had killed more than 13,000 people by early 2020.
However, in February 2022, Putin moved his nuclear forces on high alert, citing ‘aggressive statements’ by NATO and tough financial sanctions in Ukraine.
