EXPLOSION ROCKS BORNO AS TRUCK HITS ROADSIDE IMPROVISED DEVISE
A civilian truck escorted by Special Forces exploded after hitting a roadside improvised device along Ngala-Rann Road, Kala Balge, Local Government Area, Borno State.
The explosion occurred on Wednesday, May 27, at about 1:15 pm. Fortunately, no life was lost, but the truck was damaged.
Reports indicate that this is the second time an Armed Opposition Group would attack that road in less than two months.
A similar incident happened on April 7 in the vicinity of Wumbi, when suspected armed bandits stole an Information Operations truck loaded with foodstuff after it broke down.
According to sources, there was an initial decrease in Armed Opposition Group’s activity along the road between November 2019 and March 2020 as a result of the absence of traffic.
However, the resumption of traffic along the road following the reconstruction of the Faranduma bridge connecting Ngala and Rann on February 25, has seen an increase in road traffic and insecurity, which in turn is affecting major highways across the State.
Given the escalating trend in IEDs, particularly along routes that stretches through Boko Haram’s area of influence, similar incidents can be anticipated in the short-to-mid-term.
