Explosion Rocks Kebbi Hospital, Police Assure Residents of Safety

A loud explosion rocked the General Hospital in Bagudo, Kebbi State, in the early hours of Today, December 30, 2025, causing panic among residents and hospital staff.

The blast, which occurred within the hospital premises, damaged a building in the staff quarters. However, no casualties were recorded, as occupants of the affected structure had already evacuated before the incident.

Following the explosion, security agencies swiftly moved in to secure the area. A joint security team comprising personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the military, and local vigilante groups cordoned off the hospital and surrounding areas to prevent further risks and ensure public safety.

Specialist Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) teams were immediately deployed to the scene to conduct a detailed assessment and rule out the presence of additional threats.

In a press statement, the Kebbi State Police Command assured residents that the situation is fully under control. The Commissioner of Police has also ordered the reinforcement of the area with additional tactical units to maintain law and order while investigations continue.

The police urged members of the public to remain calm and to avoid the immediate vicinity of the hospital to allow security operatives carry out their duties without obstruction.

Authorities say a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the explosion is ongoing, and further updates will be communicated as more details emerge.
