FG ORDERS ALL TRAVELLERS COMING INTO NIGERIA FROM UK AND SOUTH AFRICA TO SELF-ISOLATE FOR SEVEN DAYS
The Federal Government has ordered all travellers coming into Nigeria from the United Kingdom (UK) and South Africa to self-isolate for seven days.
This is following the recent discovery of a new strain of COVID-19 in the UK and South Africa.
In a memo issued by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the directive is effective from Monday, December 28.
It said all travelers coming into the country from the UK and South Africa on direct flights, must use the Nigerian International Travel Portal to register, fill in the health questionnaire.
The NCAA also stated that travelers must upload a negative COVID-19 PCR result with a validity of not more than five days and must pay for a COVID PCR test at day seven of arrival in country
It noted that a special register would be open at the airports for passengers from these two countries specifically to track and ensure they present for COVID test on day seven.
The NCAA added that airlines shall be fined $3,500 for every defaulting passenger.
The UK and South Africa are countries where the new variant of the virus is currently causing panic and concern.
Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, and other European countries have banned flights from the United Kingdom (UK) over the new variant of COVID-19 in the country.
Other European countries such as Spain, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Canada, Bulgaria, Romania, Germany, France, Israel, Ireland, and Austria have also banned flights from the UK.
