FIVE KILLED IN ACCIDENT INVOLVING THREE VEHICLES IN OGUN STATE
Five persons on Thursday, August 20, lost their lives, while others sustained injuries in a motor accident on the Sagamu Interchange end of Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
The spokesman for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) in Ogun State, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident.
According to the TRACE spokesman, the crash involved three vehicles including a Mazda space bus, with number plate GGE 296 DC, a Benz truck with number plate FST 340 XW, and a DAF tanker, whose number plate could not be found.

Akinbiyi said the accident occurred due to recklessness and wrongful overtaking on the part of the bus driver.
“We learnt from the eye witness account that the Space Bus and tanker were inbound Ibadan from Lagos along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at the diversion axis after Sagamu interchange, when in an attempt to overtake a truck in front of it had an head-on collision with another truck coming from Ibadan,” he said.
“Five people died on the spot including the driver, two injured while another one was rescued.
"The tanker driver ran away, while the driver of the truck is recuperating at the Idera Hospital, Sagamu.

"The injured victims were taken to Idera Hospital, Sagamu while the dead persons were deposited at the Idera Morgue, Sagamu," he said.
Akinbiyi condoled with the families of the deceased, admonishing motorists to avoid reckless and wrongful overtaken at diversion and construction zones and maintain the 50kph speed limit.
