Gen Wase Visits Troops in Niger, Urges Sustained Onslaught Against Bandits
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army/Commander Sector 1 Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Muhammed Wase, has charged troops to maintain momentum in the fight against banditry and other security threats in Niger State and the North West region.
The GOC gave the charge on Tuesday, 2 September 2025, during a familiarisation visit to troops of the 31 Artillery Brigade at the Minna Military Cantonment, Niger State.
Addressing the soldiers, General Wase commended their resilience, discipline, and professionalism in ongoing operations, while urging them to remain focused on denying bandits freedom of action. He assured the troops of sound administration under the Chief of Army Staff’s “Soldier First” concept, and reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to restoring peace and enabling economic activities, particularly agriculture, in support of the Federal Government’s food security drive.
He also directed unit commanders to prioritize the welfare of soldiers, describing it as a cardinal element of the COAS command philosophy.
Highlights of the visit included a briefing from the Commander 31 Artillery Brigade, tree planting by the GOC, and a tour of the 313 Artillery Regiment Hall of Fame and Troops Training Area.
In continuation of his engagements in Minna, the GOC also visited the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) where he was received by Major General JAL Jimoh, Chief of Doctrine and Combat Development, on behalf of the Commander, Major General Kevin Aligbe.
General Wase further paid courtesy calls on former Military President General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd.), the Emir of Minna, HRH Alhaji Umar Farouk Bahago, and the Deputy Governor of Niger State, Comrade Yakubu Garba, who received him on behalf of the Governor at the Government House, Minna.
